It’s Over: Britney & Kevin Reach a Custody Settlement July 18, 2008

Britney Spears and her ex Kevin Federline have reached a custody settlement in their epic court battle over their two sons.

According to the agreement, which still needs to be signed off on by the court, Federline retains sole custody of the couple’s two sons, Preston, 2 1/2, and Jayden, 1 1/2. Spears – who’s currently allowed two visits and one overnight per week – will keep her visitation rights.

“The case has been settled,” Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan tells PEOPLE. “This is the end of a two-year journey.”

Both parties are due in court Friday.

The legal saga, which began with shared 50-50 custody in July 2007, culminated in the most dramatic of public downfalls: Spears – the pop powerhouse worth an estimated $100 million – was twice forcibly hospitalized early this year for mental health issues. (Her father Jamie stepped in to take legal control of her affairs.)

However, a judge can always modify custody settlements – and a source close to Spears tells PEOPLE the singer will likely get increased visitation as time goes on.

“Until the kids turn 18, we can expect in years to come that Britney and Kevin will be back in court,” says L.A. family lawyer Lynn Soodik, who is not involved with the case. “Britney will have a better chance of winning more custody once she regains her health. This is just the end of Round One.”

E! was first to report the couple’s settlement.

Angelina Jolie Pregnant with Twins May 16, 2008

CANNES, France (CNN) — Angelina Jolie is the talk of the Cannes Film Festival.

Not because of her films. No, the assembled media have been in a dither since her “Kung Fu Panda” co-star Jack Black let the news slip that she is expecting twins.

Angelina has taken it all in stride and has since slowly shared bits of information about her pregnancy. She revealed at a press conference she is considering giving birth to the twins here in France. She said French is a second language in her home and that her kids are learning to speak it, so being in this country at this time is good for her family.

The actress and activist also assured worried foreign journalists that the festival hasn’t been too strenuous in her condition.

I attended the “Panda” premiere after-party Thursday night at the Carlton Beach Pier, where I spoke to Angelina.

She told me she had kept the news of the twins a secret for so long because she was just like any other woman and wanted to wait until after a certain point in her pregnancy to talk about it. No word yet from her on the sex of the twins, nor if she and her partner Brad Pitt have names picked out.

She did say she was happy she could now be open about the pregnancy. I wonder if she’s genuinely relieved or just being nice so Jack Black doesn’t feel terrible about letting the cat out of the bag.

(By the way, Angelina was very patient with one correspondent who asked her if she had prepared for her role in “Kung Fu Panda” with martial arts training, ignoring the fact that the animated film only required her voice. Angelina responded she had not for this movie, but had in the past for “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”. Ahhh, Cannes …)

Speaking of Jack Black, he told me he feels badly about accidentally spilling the beans, but that he already knew what everybody knew, laughingly saying he had “read it in the National Enquirer or something.” He also struck a few kung fu poses on the carpet for our entertainment.

Their co-star Dustin Hoffman, whom I always love speaking to because he is grounded and easy-going, seemed a bit baffled by the intense attention. “She’s pregnant! It’s as simple as that,” he exclaimed.

I responded that countless women have done it in the past, to which he said, “Yes, and many will do it in the future.”

True, Dustin, but few expectant mothers will garner the same over-the-top attention Angelina is receiving. It may be inexplicable, but that’s showbiz.

Nancy Kerrigan Welcomes Third Child

Nancy Kerrigan Welcomes Third Child | Nancy Kerrigan
Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan and husband Jerry Solomon welcomed their third child – and first daughter – Wednesday morning at Winchester Hospital in Winchester, Mass., the couple tell PEOPLE.

The baby, who has yet to be named, weighed 6 lbs., 12 oz., and was delivered by Caesarean.

Kerrigan, 38, and Solomon, 53, are also parents of sons Matthew, 11, and Brian, 3.

“They’re very excited,” Kerrigan told PEOPLE. “Matthew wanted a girl and Brian wanted a boy, and the two would occasionally argue about it, but they’re both looking forward to having a new sibling.”

“All went well. Everyone is fine,” says the dad, who’s been told “there is nothing like the relationship between a dad and a daughter. So it should be fun.”

Once home, the new arrival will move into a navy blue nursery, one of four bedrooms in the family’s Lynnfield, Mass., home.

Kerrigan, who announced her pregnancy in January, gained only 25 lbs. with this baby, a pound less than she gained with Brian and two pounds more than she put on with Matthew.

As for what to call the little girl, “I think that is the hardest job, to pick a name for somebody,” says Kerrigan. “We are not very good at that.”

One suggestion: “Brian thinks Pooper would be good.”
